Gold Price Forecast 2027: Jefferies Still Sees $5,000 Gold and Calls the Dip a Buying Opportunity
Jefferies keeps its $5,000 gold price forecast for 2027 and calls the dip a buying opportunity. See the new targets and gold mining margins.

Gold prices are under pressure from sticky inflation and rising expectations for higher interest rates. Even so, Jefferies is holding firm on its gold price forecast for 2027 at $5,000 per ounce and says the current weakness is a chance to buy quality gold mining stocks. Why Jefferies Is Bullish on Gold Despite Higher Yields U.S. Treasury yields recently hit their highest level in 24 years. Higher yields normally hurt gold because the metal pays no interest. Yet gold has held up better than many expected.
Jefferies says the United States cannot afford materially higher yields for long. The U.S. runs an annual deficit near $2 trillion, about 6% of GDP, and net interest costs now exceed $1 trillion a year. The bank argues that policymakers may eventually have to act to contain borrowing costs, which would support the gold price.
The analysts summed it up this way: "We remain constructive on gold and view the recent pullback as an attractive entry point. Gold Mining Stocks: Margins Stay Healthy Jefferies expects the mining sector's third-quarter earnings season to be "okay." The quarter brought higher fuel costs, mine sequencing, maintenance, stripping work and weather disruptions.
Diesel prices rose about 12% during the quarter, while the average gold price fell 6%, from $4,516 an ounce in the second quarter to $4,263. That squeezed margins, but only modestly, and they remain well above historical averages. Lower tax payments should also lift aggregate free cash flow per ounce. A watch point is labor inflation, which management teams are discussing more often. Jefferies still expects a stronger fourth quarter as temporary disruptions ease, and sees free cash flow margins rising sharply in 2027 if gold moves toward $5,000.
Gold Miners ETF Outflows Gold mining shares have lagged the metal recently. The VanEck Gold Miners ETF saw roughly $1 billion in outflows in September. Jefferies says underlying profitability remains strong and favors high-quality producers while gold consolidates.
What This Means for Investors Near-term volatility is likely as markets weigh interest rates against inflation and government debt. Jefferies points to inflation, rising debt, currency debasement and ongoing central bank buying as long-term supports for gold. Investors should do their own research and consider risk before acting.
